It's July and that can only mean one thing; it's time for us to return once again to Distrikt Bar's courtyard for our annual summer bash, before later that night moving onto Mint. The last one of these was a blinding success, and this years looks like being even better, with a super sexy lineup.
Art Department, although a relatively new act need little introduction. Formed in 2009, Canadians Jonny White and Kenny Glasgow had been working Toronto's scene for years before their newest collaboration came along. Together the parings sleazy, synth driven and highly contemporary sound has very quickly seen them forge themselves as one of modern house music's hottest artists. Their full length debut album was released on Crosstown in April this year, which was preceded by the release of the massive 'Without you', which turned the dance world on it's head in 2010. Recent remixes for 2020 Vision, Hot Creations, Supplement Facts and Get Physical further telling of how in demand these boys are. Their appearance at Louche last year was one of the standouts of the year, and we, as well as the guys themselves can't wait to come back to Mint Club.
Taking care of the day part of the event, are Bicep, a Northern Irish DJ duo, who have made their name thanks to their music blog ' Feel My Bicep'. The guys play fantastic party starting sets that span old classics to house to techno, touching on anything in between. They are great on the decks, having now played all over the world, including Secret Sundaze's prestigious 2010 new years eve party. In the studio their production work is really tight, and their "80's inspired analog house" can be heard on their own label, as well as Ghost Town Records and Throne of Blood. Their blog is the first port of call for music heads searching online for cutting edger and hard to find music, featuring almost daily posts on nu and old funk, Chicago house, Detroit techno, Italo disco and edits. These are two guys with impeccable taste in music, and having been fans of their blog for years, can not wait to welcome them to Leeds for the first time.
So with two sweet guest acts, two venues and musical support from an array of local talent, we should be all set for another excellent mid summer party.
