+The Journey Begins Here+

Rising from the depths of Newcastle's underground to take the party scene by the scruff of its neck, +canvas+ is set to be born in some style @ the first of a series of exclusive venues: THE HUB (Warehouse) .

Our Mission is to deliver house music at it's purest, while also showcasing local art & Newcastle Upon-Tynes secret party spots.

Although the place of birth on the +canvas+ passport will say the 'The Hub", we will have no fixed abode, and will be taking our followers to the most unique venues in the city. Watch out for the Jan & Feb Announcements.

THE HUB is a stunning new warehouse space in sandyford, and it is ACTUALLY only a couple mins from town, less than a fiver in a taxi from jesmond/gosforth/heaton. We'l be posting teaser videos of the venue in the coming weeks. Stay tuned.

There was NO debate over who we wanted to launch our night, & take us into the new year...few artists worldwide manage to embody our music policy in the same fashion as Derrick, and everyone in the +canvas+ movement is truly humbled to have him grace our glorious city with his presence. Make no mistake, we are dealing with a living legend here, and it will be a task keeping the roof on the place. Our advice is to get your position on the dancefloor nice and early, zone in, and let history unfold. DC has been spinning records since before most of us were born, so god only knows what he has in store for the midnight hour..

We will be posting mixes & links galore for those of you who need familiarising with his stature, simply because there are not enough superlatives in the dictionary to portrait what this man means to house music, so any of the generic bullshit about previous releases & (record labels) you might find on other event pages is obsolete to us. Derrick Carter is a bonified pioneer, and his electrifying performances have played a huge part in inspiring us to create this musical movement. Respect his authority and recognize.

Opening the evenings proceedings is +canvas+ homeboy "Master" Matthew Roger Bailey, who has been a caged animal since the start of his career due to the currently growing scene in Newcastle. Expect classy vibes from the new kid on the block, if his madhouse after party sets are anything to go by, we could be looking at a real heavyweight.

To steady the ship we've also drafted in the heart & soul of the infamous tWadDle party's - Brother Bull & Skipper. Im chuffed to say, that like the rest of the +canvas+ movement, they're as local as pease pudding & have done us proud in yorkshire by producing a stunningly eclectic & respected event. They've hosted Dj Sneak, Lauhaus and Guillame & The CoutuDumonts to name but a few. These 2 gents posses a chemistry that is not often seen enough in back to back partnerships, their head-to-head, educated, jacking style is the perfect warm up for the big man DC, get ready for the veterans to touch down.

A quick public tribute has to be payed to Bull & Skips, without them, we may have never found house music, or any of the beauty of its partys. Thankyou.

Finally, to add to the audio delight, +canvas+ has the privaledge of calling prodigal son Neil McDermott a resident. Playing his first gig in the toon since his exodus to the Leeds scene, 'junior' comes home with heavy recommendations from backtobasics and a tWadDle residency under his belt. Add to this his headlining spots in both Leeds & Liverpool, and at 21, there isn't many people boasting similar cv's. As a talent, has to be considered one of the hottest properties in the north of england.
